End-point Assessment with Leeds City College

Leeds City College is one of the largest further education institutions in the country with more than 20,000 students. It is also one of the biggest providers of apprenticeships regionally. Working in partnership with EPA Plus, they have successfully delivered Senior Healthcare Support Worker, Healthcare Support Worker, Lead Adult Care Worker and Adult Care Worker CACHE apprenticeship standards.

EPA Plus offers both NCFE and CACHE standards across a variety of a sector and subject areas, which is supported by sector expertise, guidance documents and proactive service.

The introduction of end-point assessment (EPA) is one of the biggest apprenticeship reforms of recent times. Apprenticeship standards are now assessed at the final stage through a collection of assessments that offer confirmation of knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) for a particular role, known as EPA. What’s more, the independent nature of EPA is designed to ensure that skills are transferable across different organisations and respected industry-wide.

Estelle Brewster, Deputy Head of Health and Care Apprenticeships at Leeds City College commented:

“I would recommend NCFE and CACHE standards to others, the service we received has been outstanding. The SLA’s were much lower than other EPAO’s, with regular contact through weekly calls and reports set up to ensure the EPA process was efficient as possible. The guidance documents we received were also very helpful, and we shared these with learners from day one.

The EPA Plus team also provided a lot of support and would do anything to help staff or learners directly. The flexibility of the EPA Plus team has really helped to increase our pass rates, with 98% of learners passing their EPA.”
