Leeds City College successfully delivers CACHE qualifications innovatively through Google Classroom
Leeds City College is one of the largest FE establishments in the UK, offering a diverse curriculum to more than 30,000 students. The college provides a vibrant, multicultural learning environment, delivering excellent and innovative education which is supporting, inspiring and life changing.
The college currently delivers a number of CACHE childcare qualifications including the gold standard CACHE branded Early Years Educator qualifications which ensure the best training, professional standards, and career prospects.
Leeds City College embraces Google Classroom to deliver these qualifications, engaging learners through ICT. Google Classroom means that they can teach anywhere; as long as the student is connected to Wi-Fi on their phone, tablet or laptop, they can participate in the lesson. This innovative way of teaching means that feedback to learners can be personalised and immediate, it also means that the college is moving towards being paperless – reducing environmental impact.
Sheila Lucciarini, Head of Childcare, Counselling and Public Services at Leeds City College, commented: “Learners love Google Classroom as a method of teaching and learning, as do quality auditors who find it easy to track, and see learner engagement and progression.”
Sheila added: “Most learners studying a CACHE qualification stay on to study the next level qualification, and often progress to a Degree in Childcare and Education. Many learners are snapped up by their placement providers into jobs in the sector as Early Years Educators.
“CACHE is highly supportive, offering advice and guidance throughout the year. There is always someone to advise on new qualifications, and ensure we are doing the best regarding opportunities for our students, and in terms of funding and new curriculum developments.
“The annual CACHE conferences are also hugely popular with the team at Leeds City College, helping us keep up-to-date with news and emerging topics and policies. We cannot fault the support we get.”
Janice Spencer, Regional Development Executive at CACHE, commented: “We are delighted to hear about the innovative way the college is delivering CACHE qualifications. Leeds City College has a fantastic reputation and deliver our qualifications to a very high standard; we look forward to continuing to work with the college.”
