Dementia Action Week: meeting the needs of the health and social care sector

Date: 24 May 2018

For Dementia Action Week #DAW2018 (21st – 27th May), Alzheimer’s Society are asking people throughout the UK to stand united with those affected by dementia and take actions both large and small to make a difference to the lives of those with the condition.

The number of people with dementia is expected to grow rapidly in the UK and around the globe, with one million people in the UK predicted to have dementia by 2025, and the number of people with dementia needing palliative care set to almost quadruple by 2040.

These projections highlight the importance of training care staff to meet the needs of people with dementia, which is one of the main causes of disability later in life, ahead of cancer, stroke and cardiovascular disease.

With workforce development impacting directly on outcomes for people with dementia, the need for practitioners with the skills and understanding to provide quality support to those with the condition is increasingly important.

With the right knowledge, health and social care practitioners can help improve quality of life for those with dementia, and help those with the condition stay active and live well for as long as possible.

At CACHE we remain committed to supporting the health and social care sector to meet the growing need for qualified practitioners trained in dementia care.
